Got lemons, make lemonade. Got marker bleedthru, make bleedthrumanade.
Ingredients: Letraset Promarkers, Pentel Sunburst Gel Pen, Sharpie Fine Point Pen, Moleskine Sketchbook, Faber-Castell Big Brush, Viva Las Vegas Stamps.
I need to get some new gel pens. Mine aren't entirely out of ink, but I can't get that nice juicy blob that I smear to get that transparent look.
Now I want Dairy Queen...
ReplyDeleteI love how your drawings look. I don't have any markers (yet) to color the background. I see you use Letraset Promarkers. I have seen others mention Tombow markers. Are they similar type markers? I'm just exploring all the different tools to use since I am so new to ZIA. I enjoy your blog and your tangle patterns!! Thank you!!

ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteFor bleed-thru you need alcohol markers and paper that isn't too thick or formulated to prevent it (many papers meant for manga, won't bleed-thru).
The brands I can' think of off-hand that bleed are Promarkers, Trias, Copic, Sharpies and Bic-its. I know there are others.
Tombows are water-color based pens and won't bleed thru. Faber-Castell Pitt Artist pens are permanent ink and won't bleed thru.
One of the things to look for is the word 'marker' as opposed to 'pen'. They don't always say 'alcohol' but make sure they DON'T say 'water-soluable' or 'permanent ink' or 'permanent pigment'. At least, for bleedthrumanades, lol! Those things are wonderful if you don't want bleed-thru. I generally use the alcohol marker to color, and then one of the permananent ink pens to tangle.
Thank you so much for this information on the different types of markers and how to use the specific types of markers. I really enjoy your blog, your drawings are so inspiring and thank you for posting these great links to other sites and patterns.
