that's awesome, sandra! i think the point you stated about knowing your tools and what they can do - i think this is really what makes your art stand apart from everyone else's. you have an incredible style that i haven't seen anywhere else. do you explain anywhere on your blog/s what 'squirkling' is? how to do it? i'd be curious in that if you can point me somewhere. thanks :D
Thank you! I did a very simple tutorial a year or two back at Tanglepatterns (http://tanglepatterns.com/2011/02/guest-contributor-sandra-straits-shade-shape-blend-color-add-texture.html) where I used squirkling. You can also find some in-depth lessons at Drawspace, which is an excellent drawing resource: http://www.drawspace.com/lessons/d/squirkling
Just got done reading the article featuring your artwork. I got to say I want to pick up a pen and start learning that type of drawing, squirkling. It seems like it would be very fun and be a free relaxing way to draw. I enjoyed your other Artwork as well of course!!! Love all you work. Your a great Artist.
The site seems to be down at the moment. I knew I'd get questions about squirkling, so I checked it just last night, so hopefully they'll be back up soon.
Wonderful, Sandra!!! Your Starling piece really does capture the dazzling iridescence of this pedestrian bird. It's always exciting to hear your work has been featured on some terrific websites. Keep up the good art!!! <3 J
