At some point, I created a page in my Stillman & Birn Zeta sketchbook with broad stripes using my Montana Markers. I'm sure I had something in mind, but I moved on to other things, and forgot what I had planned. I rather liked the stripes and wanted to destroy this page so that they were still apparent.
I carved out circles using Golden's Indigo High-flow acrylic paint. Even though it's quite dark, it has a degree of transparency that allows even the light colors to show through a bit.
A Pigma Micron pen was used for the tangle patterns.

The subtle striping is a great backdrop for your tangled circles. Not sure what you mean by "carved out".
