Sorry to say , but this is an exact copy of the first steps of Plica which i made and documented with the original inspiration that led to the pattern;Well, must be she likes it, i think. But no hard feelings , there are so many patterns around. Jeannine
Jeannine, I have to respectfully disagree. Plooien starts out from the very beginning with a mirrored repeat of the ruffled loops. The mirroring is a specific part of the pattern, and Plica doesn't mirror at all.
In the second step Ilex only uses an inside loop on the top of the pattern, where you have an inside loop on both top and bottom.
Ilex adds a root like system in the bottom that you don't use at all.
Most importantly, the finished pattern is quite different in look and feel. Overall, Plooien is a fill pattern that repeats row by row. Plica can be repeated, but is equally powerful used to fill a section as a single instance. Many patterns start with the same elements but that doesn't make them the same pattern.
There are a lot of patterns (I've got about 1570 currently in my list), and many of them are the same. But I've never seen an instance where I felt someone was deliberately stealing someone else's pattern. I know it can be vexing when you see a pattern that is similar or the same with yours. I come across many patterns that look like mine, but whenever I look at them, and examine the steps, I always see something different, and I know the other person has arrived at their pattern from something they've seen in their own life.
I hope I haven't offended, but you were very direct, so I felt I should be as well. If you want to discuss this any further, please contact me at lifeimitatesdoodles@gmail.com. The zentangle community is such a friendly and caring one, and I value everyone's opinion. I always feel that disagreement can be the opportunity for everyone to learn, and come to a better understanding of each other.
Thank you. There's nothing wrong with directness, and it is often better to air one's feelings so that discussion can take place. I've taken no offense (and I hope Ilex didn't). I would like my blog to be a place where people can speak freely.
Hi - It's a great pattern! I think she named it Plooien (pleats). Patroon is actually the Dutch word for pattern.
ReplyDeleteI wondered about that. Thanks!

I shouldn't have reacted so quickly and direct. My sincere apology to both for this.
ReplyDeleteI can admit that "plooien" is a lovely filler.
