I really like the technique of splashing masking fluid between glazes of color. The sea fan in the back was reserved with a Molotow masking pen, while the splashes were done by dipping a toothbrush into Pebeo liquid masking fluid, and then running my thumb across the bristle to splatter it about the paper.
This painting was also adapted from an exercise from The Art of Painting Sea Life in Watercolor by Maury Aaseng, Louise De Masi, Hailey E. Herrera, & Ronald Pratt.
