Weekly Challenge #9 - my attempts

For Laura Harms Weekly Challenge #9-Using the Artoo tangle I started with a fairly simple drawing that isn't much along my usual style. I wasn't sure what color I should use around the Nzeppel, so I stopped and moved on to a second attempt.

As the 2nd attempt started taking on a nighttime in the woods I decided to try and give the Artoo tangle a 'glow'. See, I've sat in the hospital all night long with my mother, and I know that when Laura was creating this tangle, she wasn't just tangling. She was investing every ounce of her being with thoughts and prayers of healing for Artoo. I don't think I succeeded, but I was trying to convey a lights guiding the way through the wood effect.

Then I went back to attempt 1, and, strangely, for me, decided to leave it alone.  I think it's because I felt attempt 2 was so busy that the simplicity appealed to me as a change.

  1. As always....I love how you put pen to paper and come up with a great design!

  2. I love the multi toned artoo in the second one! It looks so much like a flower bud, rather than a leaf. Very lovely.

  3. two separate identities; both have their wonderful unique qualities. I am especially taken with the second/busy one and the rush of colours, the ruche' effect around the outside, and the bare tree in the background on the left behind artoo; wow this is beautiful. What is the second pattern in the purple strip; rather like a periwinkle?

  4. Ok, this is my second go at a comment as my computer keeps dropping off the air !! grr a real drawback of living in the country :) anyway enough rambling now, the tangles look great, I love the second one especially, the border is wonderful and the purple behind the yellow Artoo's give such depth, fabulous and inspiring as usual :)

  5. Oh, I do love your use of color, in both of them. I do prefer the second one, but that is only because I am so hungry for color just now.

What medium did you use? Colored pencils or magic markers or . . .??

BTW, on my computer, your blog background is a solid black.

  7. Thank you all! Carole, I think the pattern you are asking about is the Nzeppel variation from the new "Time to Tangle with Color" book. You draw a grid, make a box in each grid, and then draw Nzeppel in each box.

Rhani! I've been having PC problems too. I keep losing my connection to the internet and have to reset my winsock. Not sure what a winsock is--just how to reset it, lol! That's what I was doing this afternoon.

Bryd. Drat. I've been trying to come up with a neutral background that doesn't fight my colored work, but it never seems to work. Hopefully Blogger will come up with a better template designer, because I don't like any of the current choices. I used Staedtler Triplus fineliners, Stabilio fine points, Micron pigmas, and Sakuro white gel pen to burnish and lighten.

  8. WOW – I love them both. Can´t decide which one I love more… They are special each in its own way.
Your coloring is fantastic! Oh now I see what it looks like (at least to me!): It´s night & day of ARTOO.
    Gorgeous.

  9. The second one is definitely a magical fantasy forest... I'm going to disappear off into the back left panel there and go for a wander. See ya! :)
